Price is part of positioning. Start with the buyer outcome, the alternatives they would otherwise use, the amount of support included, and the economics of delivering the product—not the number of pages or videos.

Separate cost from value

Digital products often have low marginal delivery cost, but that does not make them low-value. Pricing should reflect the usefulness of the result, specificity of the audience, credibility of the solution, and the support or rights included.

At the same time, a high price needs a buying experience and product promise that can support the commitment.

Use tiers only when the difference is real

A tier can add commercial rights, coaching, implementation, community access, templates, feedback, or more advanced material. Avoid fake tiers where the only purpose is making the middle price look attractive.

For recurring products, tiers should map to ongoing differences in access or service.

Account for platform economics

A marketplace with per-sale fees, a platform with transaction fees, and a fixed-price checkout stack produce different margins. Include processing, refunds, affiliate commissions, tax-service costs, support, and paid acquisition when you model pricing.

Test with a clear offer

A price test is only meaningful when the offer, audience, and traffic quality are reasonably stable. Change one major pricing variable at a time and track conversion, revenue per visitor, refunds, and customer quality rather than conversion alone.

Frequently asked questions

Should digital products be cheap because delivery cost is low?

No. Marginal delivery cost is only one input; buyer value, alternatives, support, rights, and acquisition economics matter too.

When should I use a payment plan?

Usually when the fixed purchase is expensive enough that installments materially reduce the upfront burden.

What should I measure in a price test?

Conversion, revenue per visitor, average order value, refunds, support load, and customer outcomes.
